To apply

We are pleased to announce the 12th Czech Summer School of Linguistics. The school will be held in a beautiful old town Kroměříž in the eastern part of the Czech Republic, using the campus of the Judicial Academy. Speakers from top European research institutions and universities will present lectures on various aspects of language, language knowledge, and linguistic research. The schedule can be found here. The school is primarily intended for graduate students of linguistics, psycholinguistics and related areas. However, advanced BA or MA students interested in language and its use, as well as faculty members often also find the school inspiring and useful.

The program will start on Saturday, August 18 at 10 am, and conclude on Friday, August 24 before 1 pm. The expected check-in is on Friday, August 17 and check-out on Friday, August 24.

To apply for the Summer School, please fill out this form. Since there is typically a higher number of applicants than is the capacity of the Summer School, we would like to ask you to include a short motivation letter to the application (max. 1000 characters). The applications are accepted starting March 3 until April 15. You will be informed about your acceptance before the end of April. In case you are accepted, you will have to pay to finish your registration (see below). Those who are not accepted in the first round will be put on the waiting list and will be invited to register if some of the accepted applicants do not register in time.

We can provide two types of registration: with or without accommodation. We offer nice and cheap accommodation in the Judicial academy in Kroměříž. There are two types of rooms: single bedrooms (350 CZK / night, i.e. approximately 13.5 EUR) and twin bedrooms (270 CZK / night, i.e. approximately 10.5 EUR). Each room has its own toilet and shower. The twin bedrooms are in the same building as are the lecture halls, the single bed rooms are in a building which is about 5 minute walk from there. In both buildings, there is a kitchenette with a fridge on each floor for your use. We can offer accommodation only to those who would come for the whole time of the school. These participants pay only for the accommodation we provide and are exempted from a participation fee. If you choose this option, we will ask you to pay the whole sum for the accommodation in advance (either 1900 CZK or 2500 CZK, depending on the chosen accommodation type). We cannot guarantee the single bedrooms for everyone, so if you ask for a single bedroom but all the available rooms will be already taken, we will assign you to a twin room.

Participants who do not want to use this accommodation or would like to come only for a few days are also welcome, but they need to find their own accommodation. Also, we ask them to pay a participation fee of 500 CZK (approximately 19 EUR) to complete the registration.

If you cancel your registration until June 30, we will refund you 70% of the fee. Until July 17, we can refund 50% of the fee. After this date, the fee is not refundable.

We cannot accept credit card payments, but it is possible to pay via bank transfer or via PayPal. You will be informed about the possibilities of the payment via an email together with the confirmation of your acceptance.

During the school, a poster session will be held where participants may present their work, including results, ongoing projects, or planned work. This is not obligatory, but it is a good opportunity to interact with other participants and faculty. We will send you a separate message announcing the poster session and asking for poster submissions in June. In principle, it should be possible to accept all the posters.
